Worship

Our service may be different than others you have attended. We believe as Jesus said, “they that worship God must worship Him in spirit and in truth” and that our worship is patterned after scripture, motivated and directed by the Holy Spirit, even though it may seem informal and spontaneous.

May we make it clear that we do not seek to apologize for our way of worship, however, we thought it might be helpful to you if we explained, from a scriptural standpoint, some of the practices you might observe in a particular service.

Why do we clap our hands?

Psalms 47:1  O clap your hands, all you people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

Why do we lift our hands:

Psalms 63:4  Thus will I bless you while I live: I will lift up my hands in your name.

Psalms 134:1  Behold, bless you the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who by night stand in the house of the LORD.

1 Timothy 2:8  I desire therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Why do we have audible praise unto God?

Psalms 103:1  Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Acts 4:24  And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, you are God, who has made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that is in them:
Psalms 34:1  I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Why do we sing in tongues and in English?

1Co 14:14-15 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

Why do we have this type of worship?

John 4:23  But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.

Why do we sing choruses as well as hymns?

Eph 5:18-19 And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Colossians 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Why do we praise the Lord in the congregation?

Psalms 22:22  I will declare your name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise you.

Psalms 111:1  Praise you the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

Psalms 149:1  Praise you the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

2Ch 29:28a,b And all the congregation worshiped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded:

Prophecy

Amos 3:8  The lion has roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD has spoken, who can but prophesy?

1 Corinthians 14:3  But he that prophesies speaks unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

1 Corinthians 14:1  Follow after love, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy.

1 Corinthians 12:7  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man for profit.

1 Corinthians 12:10  To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1 Corinthians 14:29  Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the others judge.

1 Corinthians 14:31  For you may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

Tongues & Interpretation

1 Corinthians 14:39  Therefore, brethren, be eager to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:7  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man for profit.

1 Corinthians 12:10  To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1 Corinthians 14:5  I would that you all spoke with tongues, but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

1 Corinthians 14:27  If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that in turn; and let one interpret.

Anointing with Oil

Jas 5:14-15 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall deliver the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Falling Under the Power

1 Kings 8:11  So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

There are many other scriptures that express similar truths, but these are given as a basis for you to consider.

Why do we dance?

Psalm 149:3   Let them praise His name with the dance. Let them sing praises to Him with the timbril and harp.

inward

For the body is not one member, but many.

 1 Corinthians 12:14

It is our desire to equip the saints, both young and old, with the Word of God and the tools they need to both walk in His ways and to reach out to others. We doe this by…

We take the Lords command to be witnesses (or “Go into all the world”) very seriously. We accomplish this by …
